Jessica Cleaves

Jessica Cleaves (1948–2022) was an American singer known for her work in the genres of R&B, soul, and funk. She gained prominence as a member of the influential group The Friends of Distinction, formed in the late 1960s. The group is best known for their hit single "Grazin' in the Grass," which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969. Cleaves' smooth and expressive vocal style contributed significantly to the group's signature sound, which blended harmonies with contemporary pop elements. After The Friends of Distinction disbanded, Cleaves joined Earth, Wind & Fire in the early 1970s, where she provided vocals on their album "Last Days and Time."
